Rev. E. G. Knaak (Pastor)

Rev. Edwin G. Knaak was born February 3, 1890, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  There is little information available about Pastor Knaak’s early life other than he attended Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.

In August 1913 when he was 23 years of age, the San Antonio Light newspaper reported that "Mr. Knaak of Marion was in charge of the services at Harlandale (Trinity) Lutheran Church in San Antonio."  He was listed as pastor in charge at Trinity Lutheran Church through the spring of 1914.

Mr. Knaak was ordained at Grace Lutheran Church, San Antonio on May 24, 1914.  He had qualified for the ministry at an examination held earlier in May during a meeting of the Texas District of the Joint Synod of Ohio.  He was installed as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, San Antonio on June 21, 1914.  The Rev. Paul F. Hein conducted the installation service.

During his pastorate at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Knaak also conducted services at Helotes and Salado.  In early 1916 he became pastor of the Beital Memorial-Bulverde Parish.  In later years he served St. John and Zion Lutheran Churches in San Antonio and the parishes at Plugerville-Dessau, Texas and La Vernia-Elm Creek, Texas.

After complaining of illness at the 1957 District Convention, he entered the hospital in Seguin and passed away on May 4, 1957.  He was 67 years old at the time of his death.  He was laid to rest in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery at Marion, Texas.
