Pastor Ervie Braun

The Rev. Ervie Braun was born July 4, 1938.  He was baptised and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes on May 9, 1954.

The following is from the "News Letter" of Zion Lutheran Church, dated August 5, 1962.

ERVIE BRAUN, SON OF ZION, TO DELIVER THE SERMON IN 8:15 AND 10:45 YOUTH DAY SERVICES SUNDAY, AUGUST 19

Youth Day Services will be conducted Sunday, August 19, at 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with Ervie Braun, a son of the congregation, delivering the sermon, "Candidtates For Discipleship", based on Luke 9: 57-62.

MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 19

For the sake of our new members who have joined the congregation the past four or five years we feel it necessary to introduce our speaker for Sunday Services.

Ervie Braun, a member of this congregation, is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Felix Braun of this parish.  Ervie graduated from Northside High School, which is now called John Marshall High School.  After two years at A. & M. College he entered Texas Lutheran College (TLC) to study for the Holy Ministry.  He completed his Pre-Theological Training at TLC in June 1960.  He has attended two years at The Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary at Columbus, Ohio.

After another week Ervie and his wife, Yvonne, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wilson Jackson of Zion's (sic), will be leaving for Cleveland, Ohio where he will intern as Vicar of Puritas Lutheran Church for one year, after which he will return to the Seminary in Columbus, Ohio for his senior year.  May the Lord bless them in the future.

We are proud of Ervie that he is preparing for The Holy Ministry.  We hope other young men in our congregation will follow in his steps.

A History of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo, Texas has the following to say of Rev. Braun:

"Rev. Ervie Braun was called as pastor in March 1975, after he had served as the interim pastor for five months.  That fall, $20,000 was raised by the congregation for The United Mission Fund.  In 1975, musical chimes were installed and dedicated.  A bus was purchased and a Puppet Ministry was established in 1976.  A renovation project was begun in 1978.  The $57,000 renovation included a new entrance, a cloakroom and library, a cry room, panelled walls, pew cushions, stained-glass memorial windows, new light fixtures and carpeting.  Dedication was held on February 4, 1979.  Rev. Braun has promoted Bible studies within the church, retreats for various age groups and spiritual renewals."
